Far ranging body of new work
Heart warming…(to take the chill out of February….)
I have allowed myself to follow varying artistic paths as I have explored the idea of love. (free-range art?) Creating work for this show began with my tendency to sketch little hearts amongst my doodled designs and to illustrate notes with hearts and radiant stars… I have made little whimsical block prints of hearts as well as large, intense images of flowers and my beloved New England landscapes. Long ago I fell in love with beach stones, the feel of perfection and the calm remembrance of surf sounds. Recently I have created detailed graphite renderings of heart shaped rocks and balanced stone stacks. Somehow these are all related. I have drawn and painted and quilted for those I have loved. I have designed calligraphy and made art for clients for decades… and I have loved my work.
I am truly fortunate.
Heart to heart…
As humans, we have family love and friendship love and spiritual love and LOVE love and love of self and feelings of deep satisfaction in many areas of life which we call love. I am astounded by the variety of ways in which the phrase “I love you” is translated into sensory beauty: delicious food and drink, flowers and incense, lovely chocolates, precious metals and gemstones, music, and sometimes two-by-fours and granite. All these ways to express love… love amazes!
I give you my heart.
I wish to share the symbols of love with those who are looking… it can only be helpful to surround ourselves with as much beauty and happiness as is possible in any moment… for, after all, it is ourselves for whom we are responsible. We will hopefully realize, individually and as a community, that we are capable of becoming the change we want to see…. in any moment… in any situation.
Take heart!
I have spent time while drawing allowing myself to give thanks individually to those who have given their lives in these wars, who believed in our country enough to protect our lives and liberties with their lives. This is the ultimate expression of love… I honor all those who give so much and love so deeply…. and their loved ones as well.
Heartfelt…
As I have moved along in my own life I find I am more drawn to the idea of balance… in life and in loving relationships. I believe we need to allow time for ourselves, for complete focus that sometimes, blessedly, leads to losing oneself in whatever creative task is at hand. The new drawings are the result of the idea that incongruous entities/shapes can work together if there is energy devoted to careful placement and gentle handling. There is much that can be undone by haste and carelessness, much beauty that can come from unexpected combinations.
